Firewheel Tree Stenocarpus sinuatus
An attractive tree and stunning when in flower and a beautiful evergreen tree with unusual wavy shaped foliage that is glossy but leathery.
Grows into a tall, upright, 10m+,x 4m+ tree . It’sa large tree from Australia’s rainforests in the Eastern states of Australia. Subtropical – tropical areas.
Our cooler climate down South in WA will dwarf them somewhat like most tropical trees when planted down here. Will attract the birds and bees and other insects.
Stenocarpus sinuatus is in the Proteacea family. Use only a slow release, native fertiliser that is low Phosphorous.
Try growing one indoors while it is young!
Although this is not really considered an ”indoor plant’ – (well all plants are from outside are they not??) Try growing one of these indoors. The foliage is just so interesting. Watch it grow then plant it outside! It will need some room outside though as it can get large.
These are grown down the main street of Donnybrook.
