Cherry Tree – Van Prunus Avium
Everyone loves cherries and you can grow your own at home if your climate is cool enough. They need chilling hours to be productive, so somewhere inland and not too close to the coast should be good.
Van is large, dark coloured and heart shaped, sweet and juicy. Eaten fresh or made into jams. Van is also noted as not readily cracking. Tree is also a good cropper
Use Bing to pollinate.
Cherries require a cooler climate, but also warm Spring weather. The Hills , away from the coast are generally where you can grow cherries as they require a certain amount of chill hours and warm weather in Spring . In warmer areas, the tree may struggle to flower and go straight into vegetative growth.
