Manchurian Pear Pyrus ussuriensis
Manchurian Pear is a beautiful upright tree with masses of white blossoms in early Spring, glossy green foliage in Summer with gorgeous Autumn foliage. Manchurian Pear is a small to medium tree growing to around 6-9m with a width of 5-7m. It’s often used as a feature tree, for street or avenue lining, screening/hedging or even pleaching. (hedge on legs!) Being deciduous , it will make an ideal shade tree for Summer, and will let the warm sun through in Winter time.
Manchurian Pear is a landscaper’s favourite, chosen for it’s ability to tolerate conditions like poor soil, limited water, and pollution. As with all plants, they’ll thrive in beautifully improved soil, with compost, and rockdust and a slow release fertiliser. Add clay to sandy soils to hold water and nutrient and you’ll have a gorgeous shade tree before you know it!
