Lagerstroemia indica – Crepe Myrtle Zuni
Crepe Myrtle are a firm favourite around here and Crepe Myrtle, Zuni, has the most intense deep purple blooms in Summer time. These perform really well in our climate as they tolerate our hot summers quite well, even being drought tolerant once established.
Zuni can be grown as a large bushy shrub, or a small tree that grows 3-4 metres. Looks stunning in Summer showing off intense mauve flowers all season long – before foliage colours up to a reddish, bronze colour come Autumn, with an attractive, mottled bark.
A deciduous tree, Crepe Myrtles can tolerate a wide variety of conditions, but will grow best in a sunny spot, free draining, conditioned, composted soil.
