Silver Lady Fern – Blechnum gibbum
This dwarf tree fern will feel right at home in a shady garden receiving dappled sunlight. Make sure soil is free draining with added compost and is kept moist. Silver Ladies grow to around 1.2m high and about 1m in width, with a little trunk. This fern is very striking and quite quick to grow, provided it has adequate water.
Your Silver Lady Fern will look great in pots – you’ll get beautiful arching fronds overreaching the pot and looking very decorative for the patio or as a houseplant. Plant by the pool – they’ll add a great resort like look – provided you grow them as an understory plant that receives mainly shade. Would look nice planted together with Philodendrons such as Imperial Red or Xanadus and palm trees that grow tall like Golden Canes and even taller Tree Ferns. Remember to plant in odd numbers, if using multiples – choose 3 or 5 if planting out in a group under shady trees. Silver Ladies look great reaching over the edge of shady pathways.
