English Box Buxus sempervirens
English Box is used for a truly traditional, formal garden style.
Perfect for low growing hedges and for borders along driveways or paths. Deep dark green foliage provides a lovely contrast. Doesn’t grow too fast, so lower maintenance as you won’t have to prune so often. Gets to around 1.5m if left to grow unpruned.
English Box loves to live in full sun and can handle quite a bit of shade too. Free draining soil is a must.
Want a full, dense, growing from the ground up hedge? We usually recommend planting 1/3 the height of your intended hedge. (eg for a 1m hedge, plant around 30cm apart)
However, with English Box, you may want to plant closer for a quicker, denser hedge.
Planting close will prevent gaps at the bottom of each plant.
